Nordic Rights Condemns Russia’s Weaponization of Food, Energy, and Abducted Children in Ukraine Conflict

At Nordic Rights, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. Today, we stand united in condemning the alarming reports that Russia is weaponizing food, energy, and abducted children in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as revealed by President Volodymyr Zelensky during his address to the UN General Assembly in New York.

President Zelensky’s revelation is a stark reminder of the grave violations of human rights that continue to occur in the midst of this conflict. While there are international agreements in place to restrict arms and trade, it is deeply concerning that there appear to be no real restrictions on the weaponization of essential resources and the abduction of innocent children.

Nordic Rights calls upon the international community to take immediate and decisive action to address these egregious human rights abuses. It is imperative that the world does not remain silent in the face of such blatant violations of human dignity and international law. We call upon world leaders and organizations to:

• Condemn the Weaponization of Food and Energy: No nation should use the basic necessities of life, such as food and energy, as tools of war. It is essential that Russia’s actions in this regard are met with unequivocal condemnation
• Demand the Safe Return of Abducted Children: The abduction of children for any purpose is a reprehensible act that must be stopped immediately. We urge international organizations to work tirelessly to ensure the safe return of these children to their families
• Support Diplomatic Efforts: Diplomacy and peaceful negotiations are the only sustainable solutions to conflicts. We call on all parties involved to engage in meaningful dialogue to bring an end to this devastating conflict
• Provide Humanitarian Assistance: The civilian population of Ukraine is suffering immensely due to this conflict. We urge the international community to provide humanitarian aid to those in need, ensuring that innocent civilians are not subjected to further hardship
