At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. Today, we stand united against the relentless and devastating aggression witnessed in eastern and southern Ukraine, where Russia has once again inflicted tragedy upon innocent civilians.
Over the course of Friday and Saturday, Russian forces launched artillery and missile strikes into Ukrainian-controlled areas, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and the suffering of many more. This appalling assault unfolded as both sides brace for a winter of intensified conflict, with Russia attempting to quell a Ukrainian counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming occupied territories.
In the Kherson region in the south, Russian military forces unleashed hundreds of shells on Ukrainian-controlled territories, causing immense devastation to residential areas. As a result of this egregious act of aggression, one person lost their life, and another was left wounded. This loss of life and destruction of homes is a severe violation of human rights and humanitarian principles, and Nordic Right strongly condemns this senseless violence.
In a separate incident, a missile strike targeted a group of dachas, or cottages, in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Tragically, this attack resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man and left a woman in serious condition, requiring medical attention. The consequences of this act of violence extend beyond the immediate casualties to the destruction of homes and livelihoods, underscoring the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
The city of Nikopol, a home to approximately 100,000 people, was not spared from the aggression, as Russian artillery strikes claimed the life of one person. The relentless attacks on peaceful communities must cease, and those responsible for such heinous actions must be held accountable for their actions.
In the northeastern Kharkiv region and the eastern Donetsk region, Russian shelling and strikes in Kupyansk and Avdiivka wounded at least two individuals. The situation in Avdiivka has witnessed an alarming escalation in recent weeks, with Russian forces attempting to encircle and capture the strategically important town. Such aggression only serves to exacerbate the suffering of the Ukrainian people and undermine the prospects for peace and stability in the region.
Nordic Right reiterates its firm commitment to promoting and defending human rights and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in eastern and southern Ukraine. We urge all parties involved to prioritize the well-being and safety of civilians and work towards a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. We also call on the international community to take swift action to address this grave humanitarian crisis and to hold those responsible for these violations of human rights accountable for their actions.
