At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. Today, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, as we condemn the tragic missile strike that occurred during an awards ceremony in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rightfully demanded answers for the families of soldiers killed in this devastating missile strike, which took the lives of 19 brave soldiers from the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade. These soldiers were some of Ukraine’s finest fighters, and their loss is deeply felt by the nation.
Many have expressed disbelief that such a ceremony was allowed to take place so perilously close to the front lines. We share the concern that this incident could have been avoided. Ukrainian officers should have been aware that Russian drones constantly monitor Ukrainian troops’ activities near the frontlines, enabling them to guide air and artillery strikes. The ceremony’s location in a strike-risk area is a painful reminder of the dangers faced by those who serve on the frontlines.
While drone footage has emerged depicting the heart-wrenching moment of the deadly strike, Russia’s military has not officially commented on the attack. Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov has ordered a full investigation into what he described as a “tragedy.”
The use of a short-range ballistic missile in the attack, causing injuries to civilians, raises further concerns about the safety of the region’s residents. We urge a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the complete truth about what happened and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Three days of mourning have been declared in Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region, where many of the victims are believed to be from. The attack has left a profound impact on the nation, and our thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected.
We call upon all parties involved to prioritize the safety of innocent civilians and military personnel. It is imperative that lessons are learned from this tragic incident to ensure that such events are not repeated. A transparent and comprehensive investigation is essential to establish accountability and to provide answers to the families of those affected.
Nordic Right remains steadfast in our commitment to promoting peace and human rights in the Nordic Region and beyond. We will continue to monitor developments in this matter and advocate for justice and accountability in the face of tragedy.
