At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. It is with deep concern that we address the recent developments in Ukraine, where Russian forces have launched several waves of drone attacks on the Kyiv, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions, intensifying assaults on the Ukrainian capital.
According to Ukrainian officials, the enemy’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were deployed in multiple groups, attacking Kyiv from different directions simultaneously, constantly altering their vectors of movement. Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, reported on Telegram that air raid alerts were announced several times in the capital due to the changing threat.
Preliminary information suggests that Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully downed 10 Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones in Kyiv and its outskirts, preventing critical damage and casualties. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia attacked Ukrainian territories from its Kursk region, with air defenses successfully intercepting 15 out of 20 drones conducting the strikes.
These alarming incidents follow Russia’s resumption of air strikes on Kyiv earlier this month, marking an escalation in the conflict that began in October 2022. Nordic Rights strongly condemns these unjustified attacks on Ukraine’s energy, military, and transport infrastructure.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian officials have issued warnings that Russia may intensify its large-scale bombardment of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure during the winter months. In response, Zelenskyy has announced new measures to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses.
As advocates for human rights, Nordic Rights calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the protection of civilian lives, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. We urge the international community to condemn these attacks and work towards a diplomatic solution that respects the sovereignty and well-being of the Ukrainian people.
