At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. As an organization dedicated to promoting the fundamental principles of human dignity, equality, and justice, we strongly condemn the ongoing humanitarian crisis stemming from Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. The dire situation faced by the Ukrainian people demands immediate attention and effective measures to ensure their safety and well-being.
In this light, Nordic Rights commends the recent announcement by the United States to extend temporary protection from deportation for Ukrainians currently residing within its borders. This decision underscores the global community’s responsibility to provide sanctuary to those fleeing conflict and persecution.
The extension, which grants an additional 18 months of temporary protected status to about 26,000 current beneficiaries, along with the opportunity for an additional 166,700 Ukrainians to apply for temporary protected status, is a significant step towards addressing the urgent needs of those affected by the crisis. The Biden administration’s recognition of the necessity to provide safety and protection for Ukrainians who may be unable to return to their homeland showcases the principles of compassion and solidarity that Nordic Rights holds at its core.
The ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis, displacing countless individuals and endangering the lives of innocent civilians. The extension of temporary protected status by the United States is a demonstration of responsible global leadership, ensuring that those forced to flee their homes have a safe haven where they can rebuild their lives.
Nordic Rights applauds Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ statement affirming the importance of offering humanitarian relief to Ukrainian nationals during this tumultuous period. It is through collaborative efforts and a commitment to uphold human rights that the international community can effectively respond to crises of this magnitude.
As we continue to advocate for human rights and justice across the Nordic Region and beyond, Nordic Rights calls on other nations to similarly step up and extend support to those affected by the Ukrainian crisis. The world must stand united against any violation of human rights, and through collective action, we can alleviate the suffering of those caught in the midst of conflict.
