At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. Our organization stands firmly against any violations of human dignity, freedom, and life. With this commitment in mind, we unequivocally condemn the reported strategy employed by Russia in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as revealed by ANU Associate Professor Matthew Sussex.
According to Professor Sussex’s analysis, the Russian model for its war with Ukraine relies on the use of what he aptly terms “expendable people.” The strategy involves sending a large number of individuals to the frontlines with the intent that they will bear the brunt of the conflict’s violence, ultimately sacrificing their lives for the sake of limited territorial gains.
The devaluation of human life to serve political ambitions is deeply troubling and runs counter to the principles of humanity and human rights that we hold dear. Such a strategy not only disregards the inherent value of every individual but also infringes upon the rights to life, liberty, and security enshrined in international human rights standards.
The assertion made by Professor Sussex, that the Russian leadership may resort to sending individuals from positions of power and influence to the frontlines as the demand for manpower increases, raises additional concerns about the disproportionate burden being placed on specific segments of the population.
As an organization committed to promoting the fundamental principles of human rights, Nordic Right calls on the international community to take a unified stance against strategies that exploit and devalue human lives for political gains. We urge all parties involved in the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law, which prioritizes the protection of civilian lives and upholds the principles of humanity during times of armed conflict.
Furthermore, we call upon governments, organizations, and individuals worldwide to recognize the importance of safeguarding human rights, irrespective of geopolitical considerations. Every individual’s right to life and dignity must be respected and upheld, regardless of the circumstances.
Nordic Right remains dedicated to raising awareness about human rights violations and fostering a world where the principles of justice, fairness, and respect prevail. We will continue our efforts to advocate for the rights of all individuals, both within the Nordic Region and on a global scale.
