Nordic Rights Condemns Russian Strategy Dependent On Human Sacrifice In Ukraine Conflict

Our organization stands firmly against any violations of human dignity, freedom, and life. With this commitment in mind, we unequivocally condemn the reported strategy employed by Russia in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as revealed by ANU Associate Professor Matthew Sussex.

According to Professor Sussex’s analysis, the Russian model for its war with Ukraine relies on the use of what he aptly terms “expendable people.” The strategy involves sending a large number of individuals to the frontlines with the intent that they will bear the brunt of the conflict’s violence, ultimately sacrificing their lives for the sake of limited territorial gains.

The devaluation of human life to serve political ambitions is deeply troubling and runs counter to the principles of humanity and human rights that we hold dear. Such a strategy not only disregards the inherent value of every individual but also infringes upon the rights to life, liberty, and security enshrined in international human rights standards.

The assertion made by Professor Sussex, that the Russian leadership may resort to sending individuals from positions of power and influence to the frontlines as the demand for manpower increases, raises additional concerns about the disproportionate burden being placed on specific segments of the population.
