At Nordic Right, our unwavering commitment to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond drives us to speak out against any violation of these fundamental principles. We are deeply concerned about the recent escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and we condemn in the strongest terms the reported Russian war crimes that have taken place in Ukraine.
In a press conference held on Monday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, standing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, expressed his support for international efforts to ensure that Russian war crimes do not go unpunished. “The actions of Russia in Ukraine must be punished under international law,” Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated unequivocally. He also expressed his unreserved condemnation of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
We stand in solidarity with President Zelenskiy’s gratitude towards Danish politicians for their assistance in resisting Russia’s invasion. His warning that the threat extends beyond Ukraine and that the aggression poses a risk to all of Russia’s neighbors resonates deeply with our organization’s values.
Denmark’s decision to provide Ukraine with American F-16 fighter jets is being portrayed as an escalation of the conflict by Russia’s ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin. We believe in the importance of supporting nations in their defense against aggression, and Denmark’s actions are a response to Ukraine’s rightful pursuit of security and sovereignty.
However, we regret the reported injuries and disruptions caused by the conflict. The incident of a Ukrainian drone being shot down over Moscow, resulting in injuries to civilians, is a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict. We call for all parties involved to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to international humanitarian law.
Ukraine’s defense forces’ resilience in repelling Russian attacks and reclaiming territory on the eastern front is commendable. We acknowledge their efforts and sacrifice to safeguard their nation’s sovereignty.
Furthermore, we commend the aspiration of Ukraine to obtain Swedish Gripen fighter jets as a means to strengthen their defenses. The cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden is a testament to the power of international partnerships in upholding peace and security.
As an organization dedicated to human rights, we urge the international community to hold accountable those responsible for war crimes and violations of human rights. We call upon governments, international organizations, and leaders to work collectively to bring an end to this conflict through peaceful means and to ensure justice for the victims.
