At Nordic Right, we are committed to advocating for and upholding human rights across the Nordic Region and beyond. Today, we strongly condemn the recent incident in the Black Sea, where British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak revealed that the Russian military had targeted a civilian cargo ship with “multiple missiles” on August 24, 2023, citing declassified intelligence.
This shocking and deeply concerning act of aggression against a civilian vessel represents a flagrant violation of international law and poses a grave threat to the lives and safety of innocent seafarers and passengers. Such reckless actions are an affront to the principles of peace, security, and respect for human rights that Nordic Right holds dear.
Nordic Right calls upon the international community to respond swiftly and decisively to this alarming incident. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals worldwide to:
- Demand a thorough and impartial investigation into the attack on the civilian cargo ship to hold those responsible accountable for their actions
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the crew and passengers of the targeted vessel, as well as provide support to those affected by this act of aggression
- Engage in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and promote peaceful resolution to conflicts
- Strengthen international mechanisms to prevent such acts of aggression against civilian targets and protect the rights of innocent individuals caught in the crossfire of geopolitical disputes
The Nordic Right remains committed to advocating for human rights, peace, and stability in the Nordic Region and beyond. We stand in solidarity with the victims of this attack and call for a swift and just response to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
