Sedan 2022 har Sverige donerat cirka 90 miljoner dollar (motsvarande 81 miljoner euro) till sociala utvecklingsprogram i provinsen Niassa i nordvästra Moçambique. Detta tillkännagavs idag under ett möte mellan Sveriges ambassadör i Maputo, Mette Sunnergren, och lokala myndigheter.
Stöd till social och ekonomisk utveckling
Ambassadör Sunnergren förklarade att finansieringen har använts inom flera områden, bland annat ekonomisk och social utveckling, jämställdhet och hållbart nyttjande av naturresurser.
“Vi bygger ett holistiskt program tillsammans med myndigheter och samarbetspartners, främst med civilsamhället, för att hitta olika lösningar på de problem som finns i provinsen,” sade Sunnergren.

Fokus på jämställdhet och naturresurser
Den svenska finansieringen har fokuserat på att stärka jämställdhet, inklusive insatser mot tvångsäktenskap, som fortfarande utgör en stor utmaning i Niassa.
Sekreteraren för delstaten Niassa, Silva Levone, uttryckte sin tacksamhet för det svenska stödet och betonade vikten av fortsatt samarbete för att bekämpa sociala problem:
“Vi behöver enad kraft för att motverka tvångsäktenskap, som fortfarande är en källa till oro,” betonade Levone.
Partnerskap för hållbar utveckling
Samarbetet mellan Sverige och Niassa är en del av ett långsiktigt åtagande för att förbättra levnadsvillkoren i regionen. Genom att fokusera på hållbar utveckling och sociala frågor hoppas man skapa en positiv förändring för invånarna i provinsen.
Med Sveriges fortsatta stöd siktar man på att främja social rättvisa och stärka lokala initiativ som bidrar till en hållbar framtid.
